National Cyber Security Centre NCSC-EE

The Cyber Security Centre of RIA is operating in its current form from spring 2023.

National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) stands for the so-called national central cyber authorities across Europe. These are the authorities that deal with the cyber security and critical infrastructure of the state’s public sector and are the competent authorities and contact points for cyber security for the purposes of the directive on security of network and information systems (the NIS directive). In Estonia, in accordance with the Cybersecurity Act, this authority is the RIA, more specifically the Cyber Security Centre of the authority.

As effective and active international cooperation is needed to ensure national cyber security, and as cyber ecosystems are structured differently from country to country, a universal designation NCSC will help the institution using the designation stand out as a national point of contact for cyber security, both domestically and internationally. There are cyber security centres with a similar structure and tasks in Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, and Denmark.

The tasks of the Cyber Security Centre of RIA: 24/7 cyberspace monitoring, cyber incident response, protection of critical infrastructure, cyberspace analysis and prevention, surveillance, creation of information security standards, cyber crisis management and exercises, and coordination of research and development.

The logo of NSCE-EE depicts a cyber shield symbolising the power of cyber security. As the NCSC-EE plays an especially important role in international communication, the colours of the Estonian flag, directly referring to Estonia, were chosen for the logo.
